Ibiza Rocks is approaching, and with it its 10th edition, one that is set to be one of the most impressive ones yet. This year we will find the famous british band The Libertines, formed by Pete Doherty, Carl Barat, John Hassall and Gary Powell.
Barat has talked about how much of a blast he is going to have at the festival, one of the greatests ones around in his opinion. “Ibiza Rocks is one of the greatest gigs there is. The strange and debauched energy of the place never fails to provide the perfect backdrop for bacchanalian reverie of the highest order. Everyone there is gonna be ‘mad for it’, i can’t wait. One of those nights actually worth the bastard hangover. Bring it.” he declared, clearly awaiting the festival.
Some of the repertoire that we will be able to enjoy has already been revealed: DJ and producer Fatboy Slim, Sigma, Years & Years, The Courteeners, Clean Bandit and others. The organizers of the event define the experience as a great rollercoaster throughout the ten years of festival.
Hotels and other establishments have started to report shortage of vacancies during this summer, mainly due to the festival. A lot of people will make the most of the trip and also visit the rest of the island, some of them renting a bike to enjoy more freedom around the island, as well as being able to drive to the beach where the Libertine’s concert will take place.
Andy McKay, CEO and founder of Ibiza Rocks remembers very positively the first concert of Doherty’s former band, the Babyshambles, the first concert that was celebrated outdoors, in the then named Bar M, near the beach, and had a great reception.
“The ultimate defining moment of Rocks was when we discovered that our future lay outdoors and that was the night Babyshambles played Bar M. It was the moment found our time slot before midnight and the moment we discovered the energy created by a live band playing under the stars. It all clicked. It was that realisation that changing the soundtrack changed absolutely everything. By doing something that radical we skewed the whole direction of the future of Ibiza. To be celebrating 10 years on with a headline show from The Libertines, a truly iconic rock band reunited, is going to be one hell of a seminal moment for Ibiza Rocks. Roll on the next 10 years.”
