Belize consists of six districts, the Belize District, Cayo District, Corozal
District, Orange Walk District, Stann Creek District, and Toledo District, offering
villages and towns with diverse activities and amenities for the enjoyment of
the traveler but most of them with Mayan monuments and undiscovered archaeological
ruins.
According to the Belize Tourism Board, northern Belize is the richest in culture,
history and variety of nature than any other Belize's districts. Corozal District
and Orange Walk District belongs to this area, where Hummingbird HideAway Hostel
is one of the more distinctive accommodations.
Located on the Northern Highway in Ranchito Village, and just 1 mile south
of Corozal Town, the Hummingbird HideAway Hostel offers a restaurant, shaded
lounge area, campfire pit, tent rental, cabins with double bed, TV, ceiling
fan, inside toilet with wash basin and a fully enclosed cement shower house
nearby. Referred to by locals as the "Gringos with the Palapas", the
hostel is also located near the Airport Road, a local airport with flights to
San Pedro and Caye Caulker.
Speaking about San Pedro, once you made it to Belize International Airport
you have two options of getting to San Pedro Island, you can take a flight on
the local airline Tropic Air, or you can go outside the airport and catch a
land taxi into Belize City to the water taxi terminal. Water taxi boats to San
Pedro leave about every hour.
On this island is Sundiver Beach Resort, a small oceanfront hotel located 4.5
miles from San Pedro, with 12 rooms containing air conditioning, TV, telephone,
and coffeemaker, as well as 2 suites with kitchen and mini-fridges. San Pedro
has also a budget hostel, Pedro's Backpackers Inn, 5 min south from main San
Pedro town. The hostel is very basic, incredibly clean, with a small bar and
TV, internet facilities and a swimming pool with a sun bathing deck.
San Ignacio is 2 hours drive from International Airport taking Northern Highway
south, or you can get there by taxi or public buses that run on an hourly basis
from Belize City. Once in San Ignacio, the Log Cab-Inn, is a family owned guesthouse
located one mile west of town, on mile 68. This accommodation offers to the
traveler spacious cabins, swimming pool, poolside dining room, bar, and activities
including Mayan ruins trips, caving, canoeing and hiking.
Located in Caye Caulker, in the Hol Chan Marine Reserve, and reachable by local
flight, land taxi or water taxi from Belize City Airport or to the Belize City
Marine Terminal, the Belize Odyssey Resort is a hotel offering air-conditioned
rooms with balcony, cable television, small refrigerators, private bathroom
and hot water. The hotel's marina dock is situated minutes from the Belize Barrier
Reef, which is the longest living barrier reef of this hemisphere and the second
longest in the world, bringing to guests world class diving, snorkeling and
fishing.
In the southern Belize, just outside Punta Gorda in the Toledo District, Cuxlin
Ha Youth Hostel offers 24 rooms with fans, ceramic tile floors, full bath and
showers, furnished kitchens, internet facilities and a dining room to purchase
food upon request, a volleyball court, half basketball court, and a swimming
pool complete with waterfalls, caverns, and a river nearby for canoeing and
other adventures.
